July 3-4, 2014 marked another milestone in the microinsurance industry in Asia as GIZ RFPI Asia, Munich Re Foundation, and Microinsurance Network co-organized a conference dubbed “Microinsurance Learning Session Asia and Oceania: Implications of the Landscape Study” at the Grand Ballroom of Diamond Hotel in Malate, Manila.
Speakers from different microinsurance organizations in Asia such as those from India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, and Nepal among others discussed various microinsurance trends and developments in the region. As one of the speakers, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions (CLIS) General Manager Jonathan Batangan presented CLIS’ achievements and lessons learned from Typhoon Haiyan (“Yolanda”). He cited the necessity of coming out with relevant and responsive products, heightened awareness and increased customer touch points, and accessibility as drivers of customer value and reach in microinsurance.
CLIS also hosted the conference’s Dinner Reception which, together with the delegates, was also attended by International Labour Organization-Microinsurance Innovations Facility Chair Craig Churchill and Munich Re Vice Chair Dirk Reinhard.
The conference was also made possible with the support from the Department of Finance and the Philippine Insurance Commission.
