Introduction

Remittance centers like Cebuana Lhuillier make it so even unbanked and underserved Filipinos can easily receive money from their loved ones. If you’re the one sending cash, a Cebuana branch becomes the best option if your recipient does not have a bank account yet or is in a location where banks are far or non-existent.

In the past, sending money through Cebuana required the sender to visit a remittance center and complete the transaction in person. Fortunately, this process is now easier as money senders can perform a bank transfer to a Cebuana branch. It removes the initial process of the sender having to go to the branch first, making the transfers faster.

How To Transfer Money From Your Bank Account to Cebuana Lhuillier

Making bank transfers to a Cebuana branch involves knowing which institutions partner with the remittance center to ensure a smooth transaction. Banks in the Philippines that currently allow direct transfer for cash pick-ups in Cebuana branches include BPI, Metrobank, and the pawnshop’s bank, Cebuana Lhuillier Rural Bank.

Below, we learn how the transactions are done depending on your source of funds and where you’re sending them.

Sending Cash From Your Bank Account to Cebuana Remittance Centers

Account holders of BPI, Metrobank, and Micro Savings can send money to Cebuana payout centers through the following steps:

For BPI Account Holders

BPI account holders can access the service through the bank’s mobile app. Open the app and follow these instructions:

  • Go to the “More Services” option in the app.
  • Select “Services,” then look for the “BPI to Cash” option.
  • Select Cebuana Lhuillier as the cash pick-up partner.
  • Enter the amount, recipient’s name, and mobile number, then confirm the details and tap the “Next” button.
  • Enter your email address and name. This is so the bank can confirm your identity as an account holder by sending a one-time PIN (OTP) to your preferred verification channel.
  • Select “Bank of the Philippine Islands,” then enter your online username and password.
  • Select the account you wish to use to send the funds.
  • Enter the OTP.
  • You will then receive a 13-digit BPI to Cash reference code. Send this code to your recipient.

Note that your recipient should bring a valid ID that matches the information you entered in the recipient section. Also, the transfer fee from the bank to a Cebuana branch is ₱99.

For Metrobank Account Holders

Using the Metrobank mobile app:

  • Tap “Cash Pick Up” on the menu panel.
  • Enter the required information, then tap “Next.”
  • Select the account you wish to use to transfer the money.
  • Enter the amount you’ll send, then tap “Next.”
  • Check the details and confirm the transaction, then enter your one-time PIN (OTP).
  • Note the cash pick-up reference number and send it to your recipient.

Transactions through Metrobank accounts have a transfer fee of ₱100. Note also that you’re limited to sending a maximum of ₱30,000 per day using this channel.

For Micro Savings Account Holders

Holders of Cebuana Lhuillier Rural Bank’s Micro Savings can download the eCebuana App to access the money transfer services. To send money, they can select the Send Money to Cebuana payout service, enter the amount and required details, and confirm the transaction.

Similar to BPI and Metrobank cash pick-up transactions, your recipient should present the reference code you generated upon completing the money transfer.

Sending Cash From Your Bank Account to Cebuana Bank Accounts

Sending cash from one bank account to another is much easier, as it’s done online. If your recipient has yet to enroll in a bank account but is a 24K cardholder, you can encourage them to open a Micro Savings account via Cebuana. This savings account is easy to open, requires only one valid ID, and has zero maintenance balance and dormancy fees, making it a perfect option for people just starting to save funds.

Once your recipient opens and activates it, you can now easily complete a bank transfer to their Cebuana Micro Savings account via Instapay. If you’re a Micro Savings account holder yourself, you can transfer funds with zero transfer fees. Instapay fees will apply if you’re sending from a different bank.

Note that you can send money to other Cebuana savings account types. In addition to Micro Savings, the rural bank offers Cebuana Savings, Regular Savings, and Checking accounts.

However, and more importantly, this method makes for an inclusive and considerate environment for unbanked Filipinos who need access to funds quickly. With bank transfers making the transactions swift, recipients wouldn’t need to wait long to cash out funds. Moreover, if the Cebuana remittance center is located in the neighborhood, the recipients will find the process a lot more convenient. It’s also important to note that with over 3,500 branches nationwide, there’s a high chance that your recipient has access to a nearby payout center!

In addition to bank-to-pick-up transactions, Cebuana Lhuillier contributes to inclusive finance by allowing clients to perform e-wallet cash-ins and cash-outs, international remittances, and more.
