Hernani, Eastern Samar – Last December, Typhoon Ruby wreaked havoc in many towns in Eastern Samar, including the town of Hernani. The typhoon did not spare the Dep-Ed Cebuana Lhuillier Alternative Learning System (ALS) Community Learning Center (CLC). “Our roof and ceiling were impaired when a tree fell over it, forcing me to utilize only half of the room. This made the learners less excited to attend learning sessions,” said Vicente Antofina, Jr., mobile teacher for the Hernani CLC.
Through the efforts of Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, Inc. (CLFI), the Community Learning Center was finally renovated last March 10.
Hernani CLC, which resumed normal classes after the renovation, is one of the three additional centers to be adopted by CLFI in the calamity stricken areas. This is made possible through the DepEd – Cebuana Lhuillier ALS CLC under the Alternative Learning Program.
