To introduce Cebuana Lhuillier products and services to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families, Cebuana Lhuillier Services Corp. (CLSC) joined the 10th Mega Balikbayan Expo last December 10 to 11, 2013 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
The two-day expo was a venue for the OFWs and general public to find opportunities to invest, start a business, or grow their current income and livelihood. Cebuana Lhuillier sold 275 microinsurance products during the event. We were also able to gather a total of 78 Pera Padalove registrants and 11 sign-ups.
CLSC also prepared exciting booth activities such as Spin and Win Roleta Game and Cebuana Lhuillier Letra Swerte Game for the participants on the second day.
Depicting a heartwarming story of an OFW family, Cebuana Lhuillier’s short film first aired on Nov. 27as part of the GMA Christmas Short Film Festival.
Starring actor Benjamin Alves, the one and a half minute short film features how Cebuana Lhuillier has become his family’s partner and aid as they traversed the ups and downs of life.
Set in a Cebuana Lhuillier branch, the story started with Alvez reminiscing how his relationship with the pawnshop began. In his family’s long relationship with Cebuana Lhuillier, they were able to use not just pawning but the other different products and services such as Pera Padala, Cebuana Lhuillier Microinsurance, and Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation’s scholarship program.
Now on its eighth year, GMA Christmas Short Film Festival gifts viewers with touching and heartwarming stories that capture the essence of the holiday season. It aims to share insightful stories of Filipinos while celebrating the different values of what makes Christmas here truly Filipino.
Aired on both GMA and GMA News TV, Cebuana Lhuillier’s short film can be viewed from November 27 to December 26 at various times. The film fest supports the GMA Foundation Inc.’s Operation Bayanihan for the benefit of the super typhoon Yolanda victims.

PJ Lhuillier Inc. (PJLI) and its President and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier were finalists in three award categories at the 4th Asia CEO Awards. PJLI received recognition as finalists of the Top Employer of the Year, Top Filipino Executive of the Year, and Executive Leadership Team of the Year.
The company has seen tremendous growth over the last few years. From a quaint pawnshop business, PJ Lhuillier, Inc. (PJLI) boomed into a dynamic, non-banking financial institution with over 1,500 Cebuana Lhuillier branches all over the country. Today, the company owns and operates businesses that deal not only with pawning but also with local and international remittance, non-life insurance, jewelry trade and retail, hotel, information technology, sports, and real estate/property management.
PJLI has responded with innovative products and services attuned to the needs of the company’s growing clientele. For example, loyal clients are now being rewarded through the very first international remittance rewards program dubbed Pera Padalove.
All these business ventures and industry leadership have caught the attention of the event’s organizers. Although PJLI didn’t bag the top awards, one of the organizers said that PJLI is “certainly considered an impressive group.”
The awards recognition ceremonies were held on Nov. 14, 2013 at the Solaire Resort & Casino. Almost 800 business leaders and representatives were in attendance.
The world is a witness to what was left in the Visayas after super typhoon Yolanda struck. Aid and relief efforts are pouring in from all over the world and Cebuana Lhuillier and its employees are doing their part to help the cause.
Utilizing its network of branches all over the country, Cebuana Lhuillier is still accepting cash donations on behalf of partner institutions. As of Nov. 18, a total of PHP 11.84 million cash donations have been received at Cebuana Lhuillier branches all over the Philippines. The donations were received without charge on behalf of the GMA Kapuso Foundation, Philippine Red Cross, TV 5 Alagang Kapatid Foundation, Caritas Manila, and World Vision.
Some Cebuana Lhuillier branches, even in the hardest hit areas, are open to serve typhoon victims directly receiving money from family or friends.
Although some branches still have limited remittance transactions due to telecommunication difficulties, Cebuana Lhuillier is continuously working to restore full range of services in the shortest possible time. Solutions are also being quickly put in place to make branch services convenient and fast for the victims of the typhoon.
This has not gone unnoticed. Blogger MJ De Leon commended Cebuana Lhuillier in an Instagram post for “agreeing to pay employees twice the daily wage and financing a generator set to process remittances for the victims even if the branch itself was damaged by the typhoon.”
Editor’s Note: This is part of a series that tells the stories of PJLI’s efforts to help the victims of super typhoon Yolanda. PJLI joins the world in helping rebuild the Visayas.
The catch phrase “The Filipino spirit is waterproof” is doing the rounds on social media these days due to the havoc Super Typhoon Yolanda has caused in the Visayas. Cebuana Lhuillier, spearheaded by its President and CEO Jean Henri D. Lhuillier, has responded to the call for cash or in-kind donations to put Leyte and other provinces back on their feet.
With a total of P1,850,000 cash donations to various foundations and organizations managing relief operations on the ground, Cebuana Lhuillier joins the world in helping those most affected by Yolanda. Cebuana Lhuillier employees also donated P50,000-worth of medicines, toiletries and ready-to-eat food.
Also through the efforts of Cebuana Lhuillier president and CEO, a team of medical doctors from the US are in Visayas right now to conduct medical missions. The team, who arrived in Manila on November 18, brought medical supplies and imported a vital and unique oral rehydration solution developed at Stanford and the Mayo Clinic in the United States.
Meanwhile, Cebuana Lhuillier’s Head of Operations Miko Jimenez was in Tacloban City from November 11 to 14 to extend help to Cebuana Lhuillier employees who might have been affected by the disaster.

P.J. Lhuillier, Incorporated (PJLI), the mother company of Cebuana Lhuillier Pawnshop and other affiliate brands, bagged several awards at The Philippine Quill Awards 2013, held recently at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, for its external and internal communication campaigns.
PJLI won Awards of Merit for the “2012 Search for the Happiest Pinoy” for advocacy communications and special events-external. The campaign’s goal is to find the individual that exhibits happiness in the midst of trials—having an optimistic outlook in life, a cheerful disposition, a proven ability to rise above life’s challenges, and a positive impact in the lives of others.
The company also received an Award for Excellence for its “Quest to Be the Best” Vision Launch for special events-internal. The activity, launched through a series of events held in six key cities in the Philippines, sought to cascade the company’s new vision among the employees—to be the best and preferred microfinancial and business-to-business solutions partner—and immerse the employees in the company’s “Be The Best” campaign, which promotes excellence amongst the company’s employees and management.
“We are grateful to The Philippine Quill Awards for the recognition. We hope that through these endeavours we were able to communicate to the public, and our employees, the importance of character building—rising above the challenges and bringing the best out of one’s self, whether at work or in everyday life—which these two campaigns have in common”, said PJLI President and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier.
The Philippine Quill Awards, organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), recognizes the best business communications covering communication research management, communication management, communication skills, and communication training and education across various categories.
