Pasig City – Last July 31, Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, Inc. (CLFI) attended the formal launch of LightEd PH, the Department of Education’s (DepEd) campaign to provide schools with electrification, at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan within the DepEd complex.
“LightEd PH aims to provide schools with electricity through conventional means for on-grid schools and alternative energy sources such as solar generator sets and solar panels for off-grid schools as a stand-alone and self-sustaining technology system,” said DepEd Usec. Mario Deriquito.
Present in the event were DepEd Sec. Armin Luistro, CLFI Executive Trustee Atty. Cesar Vidal, Program Manager-OIC Kristina Muñiz, school electrification partners, and selected students from Pinagsabiran Elementary School in Tanay, Rizal.
A sub-campaign called “One Child, One Lamp” was also launched to raise funds for solar lamps to be distributed to students in off-grid public schools.
Last 2012, CLFI also donated 50 solar-powered lamps to families and children who cannot study at home due to unavailability of electricity in Brgy. Talungon in Bais City, Negros Oriental.
