Nine months after being appointed as Philippine Ambassador to Portugal, Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier presented his Letter of Credence to President Anibal Cavaco Silva of Portugal on January 14.
Following a Portuguese protocol motorcade and military salute for the ceremonies, Ambassador Lhuillier expressed the deep appreciation of the Philippine government, most especially President Benigno S. Aquino III, and the Filipino people for the harmonious and valuable relationship between the Philippines and Portugal. Being the channel to Portugal, Ambassador Lhuillier shared his vision for more active and productive collaborations between the two nations.
President Anibal Cavaco Salva also believes in the same vision and optimism of Ambassador Lhuillier. He recognizes that Asia, especially the Philippines, has great contributions to Portugal’s foreign and economic policies. He is confident that through the new ambassador, the continued close ties between the two countries would lead to positive results especially in the areas of trade, tourism, and enrichment of cultures.
Ambassador Lhuillier was the Philippine Ambassador to Italy from 1999 to 2010. Having been appointed to be the country’s envoy to Portugal, he promised to exert the same level of commitment and dedication in doing the responsibilities set forth by President Aquino III.
